Obituary for Mary Elizabeth Bambury (Forde)

Mary Elizabeth Bambury, 89, of New York City, died on Thursday, February 23, with Lewy body dementia.

Mary was born April 1st, 1933, the second of five children to Irish immigrants William Forde and Mary Forde, (nee Brannick). She is survived by younger sister Margaret Mary Barral and is predeceased by elder brother William Forde and younger sisters Rose Ann Donovan and Helen O'Connell. Mary attended Guardian Angel Grammar School and Saint Alphonsus High School.

Mary worked as a secretary for many years, notably for The General Theological Seminary, Catholic Charities of New York, the National Maritime Union, The Society of the Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick and the McColl School of Business at Queens University of Charlotte, NC.

Standing twice as District Leader candidate for the Horatio Seymour Democratic Club in the early 1970s, Mary was twice defeated but always retained her sense of civic duty, serving for more than a decade on Manhattan's Community Board 4 starting in the early 2000s.

Mary is predeceased by son James Bambury and husband Joseph Anthony Bambury Jr and survived by sons Joseph Bambury III, John Bambury and Justin Bambury and daughter, Jean Bambury, and grandsons William Bambury, James Bambury and granddaughter Emily Bambury
