Life Story for Henry Matthew Grell

Henry Matthew Grell, known to his friends as Hank, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 18, 2019. Hank was a lifelong New Yorker and a longtime Stuyvesant Town resident. He was a Navy Veteran, serving on the U.S.S. Enterprise from 1963 to 1967 during the Vietnam War. After 40 years of dedicated service, Hank retired from Con Edison as a control room operator in 2008. Hank was a past Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus and parishioner at Immaculate Conception Church. Hank was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle and brother. He was an avid chess player and history buff who loved to watch documentaries, movies, and read many historical pieces. In his spare time, he would often enjoy constructing model ships with complex details. He was a friendly and kind man who often would be seen chatting with friends and neighbors on a park bench. Hank took pride in his family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially his four grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Marilyn, sons, Christopher (Tara) and Stephen (Maureen), brother, David, sister, Carolyn, and grandchildren, Kaitlin, James, Erin, and Michael.
