Obituary for Edith F. Collins

Edith Collins known and loved by many as "Edy" was born on March 19, 1930 (one day and one year after her late husband, Louis Collins, Jr.) to the late Johnny and Emma Furman. She was the youngest of seven children: Matilda Baylock, Rosetta Singleton, the late Lawrence Furman, Lee Furman, Victoria Glover and Bertha Hutchinson.
She grew up in Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina, and as a young woman she studied to be a nurse. Edith met her husband Louis in Charleston, South Carolina and together they moved to New York City to start a life together.
Louis and Edith joined in holy matrimony on January 6, 1951. Together, they were blessed with four children; Vanessa O. Collins Flynn, Rodney Collins, Nathan Collins (Debbie) and Kenneth Collins (Anna). Edith was also blessed with a daughter Dorothy Cintron and adopted son, the late Van Leuan.
She is survived by her sister-in-law Rosie Collins, Aunt Louise Johnson, many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Edith was a devout Christian and member of the Times Square Church, where she enjoyed praising the Lord. Edith worked for the United States Postal Service for over twenty years. As a young woman, she belonged to the Order of the Eastern Star.
The family of the late Edith Collins wishes to thank everyone for their kind expression of sympathy, prayers and all acts of kindness extended to them during their time of bereavement. Edith was a joy to all those she encountered, family and stranger alike.
