Condolences

Condolence From: Dominique Roberts
Condolence: I am saddened to learn of Laura's passing so long after the fact. I have been living abroad for five years and it has been a long time since I studied with Laura in NY. Going uptown for a lesson with Laura was a true highlight of my time at NYU and my life in NYC. I cherished her guidance and our time together. I hope her family remains well and that her dear memory lives on in the many students she helped over the years.

Condolence: This week Barbara Cook passed away and it made me think of Laura and I wondered if she was still teaching. I just called her number and through google discovered that she passed as well. I am so very sorry- John- and Laura's sisters- she spoke of you so often. I loved Laura like a second mother and I studied voice with her for decades. I have never studied with another technique teacher because she was the best. I am heartbroken. I hope she did not suffer. I never considered that she would ever be gone because in my heart she will live forever. Thank You Laura for the love and care you took with my voice, the encouragement and the joy you brought every time I opened my mouth. She is in heaven with Reuben no doubt. John, I remember you since you were a young man. My sincere condolences to you and the family. Eadie Cohen

Condolence: The loss of a loved one can be so difficult to bear. We can draw comfort from the bible at at 1 corinthians 15:26 where god promises to bring the last enemy death to nothing. The bible tells us of many promises such as this. Please take care and very sorry to have learned of your loss.

Condolence: To John who has lost his mother and to Laura’s sisters and family, I am sending you all a big hug and sincere hope that someday you will find peace in your loss. I always look back fondly on getting to know my cousin Laura during my time in New York City. She had become a friend and gave generously of her time to me as a teacher. Her stories of her memories of my Dad holding her hand as a little girl taking her to get ice cream were especially heartwarming. She had a brilliant mind and beautiful voice. Rest in peace Laura. I am sure you are already holding choir practice with the angels in heaven. With love.

Condolence From: Jonathan Guss
Condolence: Aunt Laura had such a profound effect on so many lives: Uncle Reuben found happiness through her; her many students found their voices through her; Cousin John was given life by her; and I found a loving aunt, friend, and mentor who, with great humor and caring, guided me toward my career as a singer and, eventually, as a teacher as well. Whether singing or teaching, I’ve always heard her voice in my head, giving advice. It’s no exaggeration to say I would not be where I am today without her. I will miss her warm laughter and guidance, and her genuine fondness for and participation in (not merely tolerance of) the Guss family humor.

Condolence From: Daniel Guss
Condolence: When my Uncle Reuben introduced Laura Thomas to the Guss family, we were immediately enchanted by three things: how she could listen, how she could laugh, and how she could sing. She shared her gifts with us all, and together with Rube gave us another gift: their son, my cousin John. She made a home for them; indeed, she was a home for them. She was the love of Rube’s life, and that was the greatest gift of all. She may have left us, but I know that, just beyond the range of our perception, she is still listening, still laughing, and still singing.

Condolence: Sending heartfelt condolences to the Thomas family. Often times we can't express how we feel only giving way to tears. Isaiah 25:8 comforts us. God (Psalm 83:18) has promised to wipe your tears and swallow up death forever,Isaiah 25:8.
